Vortex Crashers
A downloadable game
We made this for an end of year project thing for EARTSUP Lille in 2020, and I'm now getting around to uploading it
The goal was to take a game from the 80s/90s that wasnt 3D or a RPG and add a new gameplay mechanic to it.
We took contra and added a dash / projectile absorbing mechanic, and made it a rogue lite as well because why not.
It's far from perfect (some spaghetti code, no difficulty scaling, only 1 level that repeats), but it got us a pretty damn good grade.
This can be played with 1 or 2 players
You need a controller to play the game (Xbox, switch pro controller, PS4 controller, a bunch of controller should work fine)

The jump on the stick is really annoying.
I kept jumping without wanting to and not jumping when I wanted to. A stick isn't
the most precise thing in the world when it comes to input so I'd really recommend
not doing something like this for your next projects. I also didn't realise while playing that dashing could recharge
my weapon. Maybe a more explicite indication at the start would have helped. As a
result I didn't reach the end of the level.
But the quirkiness of the game aside, I think it's a really nice accomplishment for first year students, with nice graphics and animation. A clear vision of your concept. Multiple ennemies and
boss fights that are well designed and a realistic scope for the time you had for development.
So yeah, overall I'd say it's a very nice school project. Good job !
Thanks for the feedback
The jump isn't supposed to be on the stick, we changed that but I uploaded the wrong build, I'll fix that.
The "dash to absorb projectile" mechanic is in the itch.io description but I agree that we should've better explained it in game
True g@m3rz stuff here
It's kinda the darksoulisation of the videogames, I'm disappointed : no nuke in the game. But yet, what a good game! Sah what a pleasure, It's like the holly son of undertale and mass effect.
plz send them some money, like a lot
